Per-trait breeding-value identifiers. Same biological signal, different notation across countries — the AI translator and Tier 1 parsers normalise them all to a canonical Genemap vocabulary.
An estimate of an animal's full additive genetic merit for a given trait — what it transmits to all its progeny, on average. The AU/NZ standard notation.
The US standard breeding-value notation. Arithmetically equivalent to ½ × EBV — represents what the animal transmits to a single progeny, on average. Half the AU EBV value for the same animal.
The Spanish/Portuguese equivalent of US EPD — used by Brazilian (ABCZ) and Argentine (ABBA, IRAC) breed evaluations. Arithmetically equivalent to ½ × EBV.
Sheep Genetics' breeding-value notation for AU and trans-Tasman sheep evaluations. Same conceptual basis as EBV — the AU sheep adaptation.
A measurement of the intramuscular fat distribution in a carcass — the visual marbling that drives the high-end consumer beef premium. Scored on systems-specific scales (USDA, MSA, KAPE BMS 1-9, etc.).
Wool yield per ewe per year, measured in kg after scouring. Multiplied by the AWEX micron-to-price curve to derive wool revenue. The load-bearing economic axis for Merino wool-primary operations.
Wool fineness measured in microns (μm). The single largest fibre-quality differentiator in commercial wool. Sub-18μm Saxon Merino fleeces command exponential premiums in the AWEX auction.
The dominant economic axis for maternal sheep systems (NZ pastoral, AU maternal composite). Moving herd average from 1.45 to 1.65 lambs weaned per ewe is a ~14% revenue uplift on a roughly fixed cost base.
The amount an animal eats above or below what would be predicted given its size, growth rate and milk production. Low RFI = feed-efficient; high RFI = inefficient. Critical for feedlot economics and methane-intensity indirectly.
Female fertility traits. DTC (Days To Calving — AU/NZ) measures how soon after joining a cow conceives. IPP (Idade Primeiro Parto — BR/AR) measures age at first calving. Both drive self-replacing herd economics through cow-cycle compression.
Male fertility trait. Predicts age at puberty in heifer progeny. AU/NZ: SC measured at typical sale age. Brazil: PE365 measured at exactly 365 days.
Cross-sectional area of the longissimus dorsi muscle (between 12th and 13th rib), measured in cm² or in² ultrasound or post-slaughter. Drives carcass yield grading.
Pelt grading axis for Swedish Gotland sheep — drives pelt-primary system economics. The pelt traits Pälskvalitet, Lockighet (curl), Lyster (lustre), Färg (colour) are uniquely Swedish Gotland evaluation axes.
Parasite-resistance trait for sheep. Lower is better. First-order economic axis for shedding sheep operations on rangeland country where drench-resistance has emerged.

Carcass grading.
Country- and processor-specific grading schemes that translate carcass attributes into per-kg cwt premiums and penalties. The bioeconomic engine reads each grid to derive what every breeding value is worth on that specific market.
US Department of Agriculture's carcass quality scale, driven primarily by marbling. Prime ~12% of US kill, Choice ~76%, Select ~9%. Choice/Select spread is a volatile key market signal.
The UK and EU's 5×5 carcass-grading matrix: conformation (E / U / R / O / P, best to worst) × fat class (1 / 2 / 3 / 4 / 5, low to high). UK premium target is U+×2/3 or R×3.
Australia's eating-quality grading scheme. Combines carcass-side measurements (marbling, ossification, hump height, ultimate pH) with consumer-validated per-cut palatability models. Drives the MSA-graded premium channel for prime AU lamb and beef.
Korea's beef quality scale: Quality Grade (1++/1+/1/2/3 based on marbling, meat colour, fat colour, texture, maturity) × Yield Grade (A/B/C). 1++ A is the top tier (~12% of national kill, ~30% premium over 1++).
Sweden's official carcass grading scheme administered by Jordbruksverket. EUROP-derived conformation classes plus weight bands. Distinctive for ungtjur (housed bull) production economics.
The EU's annual high-quality beef tariff quota: 30,000 tonnes to Argentina, allocated for prime grass-fed cuts from animals 19-25 months old, ≤460 kg cwt. Drives the top-tier Argentine cabaña selection objective.
Brazilian processor-contract premium for steers finished before 24 months. R$5-15 per arroba (15 kg cwt) above the spot boi gordo indicator. Mato Grosso do Sul, Goiás and São Paulo run formal certification programs.
UK branded-beef premium tiers: Hereford Beef Premium and Certified Aberdeen Angus Beef Premium pay +£0.10 to +£0.35/kg cwt over the standard EUROP grid for animals from certified herds.

Korean Hanwoo cattle finished intensively to ~30 months on barley + rice bran + concentrate, targeting 1++ marbling. Marbling worth ~3.5× the temperate-system default.

Brazilian-Portuguese term for cattle finishing in a feedlot. Increasingly common in Brazil for the China-export channel; still ~30% of national kill vs Cerrado pasture finish.

Henderson 1975 mixed-model equations — the standard statistical framework for breeding-value estimation. Combines pedigree (relationship matrix), fixed effects (year × contemporary group), and the observed phenotype to produce a per-animal EBV.
Combines pedigree-based BLUP with genomic-marker information in one mixed-model framework. Aguilar 2010, VanRaden 2008. The current standard for genomic breeding-value estimation in commercial pipelines.
Hoerl & Kennard 1970. Used in Genemap's closed-loop calibration to regress producer-realised slaughter $/head against the animal's EBV vector. λ regularises against multicollinearity between correlated breeding values.
A breeding-value estimate computed directly from SNP genotypes (without pedigree). Used in per-farm GWAS where the producer's own animals' genotypes are regressed against their realised profit.
Brascamp 1978, McClintock & Cunningham 1974. Each EBV expresses across multiple generations — directly in the animal, in daughters, in granddaughters. The platform NPV-discounts the full pathway at 5% over 10 years.
Patterson & Thompson 1971. Standard method for estimating variance components in mixed-model breeding-value evaluation. Used to select the ridge regularisation penalty λ in Genemap's calibration loop.
A Bayesian model with closed-form posterior updates used in Genemap's online calibration. Mathematically equivalent to ridge regression with λ derived from the prior precision Λ₀.

Composition of rumen and gut microbial communities — heritable component (h²≈0.20) and economically material for feed-conversion, methane production, parasite resistance.
Commercial pulse-tracker system that measures per-animal methane emissions at known intervals when an animal visits the feeder. One of four methane-measurement methods Genemap's CH4.1 module accepts (alongside SF6, respiration chamber, microbiome proxy).
Australia's domestic carbon market mechanism. Methane-reduction projects can be certified to generate ACCUs under the Carbon Farming Initiative. AU ACCU spot price flows into Genemap's methane-economics layer.
